No foul poultry in Oman

By Zainab Al Nasseri — MUSCAT: April 18 - There is no contaminated Brazilian poultry and no products inconsistent with specified standards in the Sultanate, the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources has said. The statement comes in the wake of rumours that the poultry products imported from Brazil were contaminated. The ministry also carried out inspection campaigns in cooperation with agencies concerned within the country and abroad. Investigations will continue and necessary action will be taken to ensure the safety of consumers, it said. Last March, some poultry farms in Brazil were accused by the local police of engaging in unhealthy practices in the production and packaging processes. The Brazilian authorities suspended 21 Brazilian companies prompting some countries to ban poultry products from that country, while others banned only the import of meat from some firms under investigation. Companies in Oman, both individual entities and authorised agencies, import Brazilian poultry and meat worth millions every year for local consumption.
