By Zainab Al Nasseri — MUSCAT: April 24 - The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources on Monday signed agreements with Oman Liquefied Natural Gas Company (OLNG) for funding three development projects in Sur, Al Sharqiyah South. Ahmed bin Abdullah al Shuhi, Minister for Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, and Khalid bin Abdullah al Massan, CEO of OLNG Development Foundation, agreed to carry out beautification and development of fishermen’s dock in Sur, marine front in Ija, and establish three integrated playfields (Hara Project). The total cost of the projects is RO 820,000. Works for the fishermen’s dock include deepening of the surrounding zone by two more metres, establishing mooring spaces for boats and building rest lounges. The dock area will also be expanded. Ija project comprises beautification of the marine front, including building a 750-metre-long sidewalk along the coastal line, with a 110-metre-long concrete shield. The third project comprises the establishment of three playfields in the residential neighbourhoods, including a hexagonal football ground, an area for children’s entertainment and a health centre. The total area of each project is 1,500 square metres. Commenting on the agreements, Al Shuhi said they emphasise the role played by the private sector in boosting the national economy. Such projects, said the minister, will secure revenues for the people, boost commercial and economic activities, attract tourists and encourage fishermen to practise their profession.
