NEW DELHI: At least six militants who infiltrated the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir were killed by security forces, officials said on Saturday. Troops guarding the border spotted a group of heavily armed militants in the Uri frontier sector, some 110km west of Srinagar on Friday evening. The insurgents opened fire on the forces, following which a gunbattle erupted. “Six militants who had infiltrated into the area were killed by our forces in the clash,” state police chief Shesh Paul Vaid said, adding two soldiers were also injured in the encounter. The army was carrying out searches and a counter-infiltration operation in the region. With Friday’s gunbattle, the total number of infiltrating militants killed by Indian forces along the LoC in the past three days has gone up to 13. — dpa
