Japan’s exports gain 13 per cent in July

Tokyo : Japan’s exports to China and the United States jumped in July, the government said on Thursday, with a weaker yen contributing to a 13.4 per cent rise in overall shipments. Exports climbed to 6.49 trillion yen ($59 billion) for the eighth straight month of increase, the Finance Ministry said in a preliminary report. Exports to China, Japan’s largest trading partner, soared 17.6 per cent year-on-year to 1.21 trillion yen, while those to the United States gained 11.5 per cent to 1.32 trillion yen, the ministry said. Meanwhile, Japan’s imports jumped 16.3 per cent year-on-year to 6.08 trillion yen, which resulted in a trade surplus of 418.8 billion yen,the ministry said. — dpa
