The imposing Jaameh Zinjbaar Zanzibar Mosque — a new landmark built in Zanzibar on the Royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos — was formally inaugurated at a grand ceremony on Friday. The official ceremony took place under the auspices of the President of Zanzibar and in the presence of the Sultanate’s delegation led by Habib bin Mohammed al Riyami, Secretary-General of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Cultural Science, with the attendance of a number of ministers and officials of Zanzibar. More than 7,000 people performed Friday prayers at the newly-opened mosque, led by the imam and preacher. In his remarks, the Zanzibar President thanked His Majesty the Sultan, and his government and people of Oman, for the noble gesture.
