Festival of Korean culture, music and martial arts

MUSCAT, Oct 28 - A weeklong festival of Korea culture, music, dance, films and taekwondo opens on Tuesday, October 31. The event, titled ‘2017 Korea Week’, has been organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. “During Korea Week, various Korean cultural events will be introduced to our Omani friends to celebrate our long cherished friendship between Oman and Korea. Korea Week includes Korea Music & Dance Night, Korea Movie Nights and Taekwondo Competition. Korean Embassy invites all of you, friends of Korea, to these events, which are open to all, to provide an opportunity to experience Korea much closer,” said the Embassy in a press release. The festival begins with a Korea Music and Dance Night on October 31 at the American British Academy (ABA), Al Khuwair, at 7.30pm. The show features young, talented Korean artistes performing with unique musical instruments, as well as singers serenading the crowds with songs ranging from classics to the latest K-pop music. The rhythms of ancient Korean dance forms will be presented on the occasion well. The event concludes with a joint performance by Omani and Korean musicians. For movie buffs, there will be a screening of Korean films at the City Cinema in Muscat Grand Mall on November 2 and 3 at 7.30 pm. The first movie, Ode to My Father, is a big hit in Korea, having been watched by ten million people. It depicts modern Korean history from the 1950s to the present day through the dynamic life of an ordinary man. The second film, SORI: Voice from the Heart, is a heart-warming story appealing to all ages. The movie revolves around a high tech robot which contains all recorded voices on the world. With the robot a father has a long adventure to find his missing daughter by using the robot’s recording ability. The festival rounds off with a competition of Taekwondo at 8 am on November 4 at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
