Nikkei index closes at 26-year high

TOKYO: Tokyo’s benchmark Nikkei index closed at a 26-year high for the second consecutive day on Friday as Wall Street continued a record-setting advance. The bellwether index, which hit its best level since January 1992 on the first trading day of 2018 on Thursday, added another 0.89 per cent, or 208.20 points, to close at 23,714.53. The broader Topix index was up 0.89 per cent, or 16.52 points, at 1,880.34.— AFP
