Sports ministry signs pact to construct sports complex

MUSCAT: As part of its endeavours to promote and enhance sports infrastructure in the different parts of the Sultanate, the Ministry of Sports Affairs on Monday signed an agreement to construct sports complex in the Wilayat of Ibra in the Governorate North Al Sharqiyah. The agreement was signed by Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs and Salim bin Aqeel Mohyeddin, CEO of Al Hashmi and Al Rowas Trading and Contracting. The construction works of the project, which will be a valuable addition to the sports facilities in the Sultanate, will be initiated at the end of this month and it will be completed in 2020. The sports complex that will be constructed at Al Fulaij new area in Ibra in North Al Sharqiyah, will stretch over 262,000 square metres. The sports stadium complex project includes football pitch as per world class standards. The stadium, which will accommodate 15,000 soccer fans, will be equipped with TV transmission technologies. The project also includes multipurpose sports hall as per international standards for handball, volleyball and basketball with seating for 1,100 fans. It will be provided with other sports and service facilities, such as conference room, gym halls and a management building. — ONA
