Indian short film director plans movie on Oman sports

MUSCAT, Aug 13 - Award-winning Indian short film director Tasleem Khan plans to make a movie on Oman and its sports culture in the Arabic language. “Oman is a rich country in terms of its culture and tradition, hospitality and a sports culture which has enabled it to win the Gulf Cup,” says Tasleem. “The movie will tell the story of an ambitious boy from a village who wants to make it big in sports. We will see how he makes his nation proud,” says the film-maker. Tasleem bagged the ‘best director’ award at the recently held ‘Oman-Indo Short Film Festival’, organised by Oman Film Society (OFS) in association with Indian Embassy and Kalamandalam Muscat. He has won many awards for his earlier films at several international film festivals, including those in France, Estonia, Norway and Muscat. His latest film, Ayudham Pazhagu (Train Your Weapon), fetched him the ‘best director’ award. Completely shot in Oman, it has KSG Venkatesh, son of Tamil director KS Gopalakrishnan, in the lead, along with Giridharan, Vijay Raghwani, Raja Gunasekar, Krishna, Thejas, Suresh, Shahid and Tasleem. Another sports film based on cricket as a new sport in the country was announced last year. Sources close to the production team said the film would be released soon. KABEER YOUSUF
