Over 100 arrested for labour law violations

Muscat: The Ministry of Manpower, represented by the manpower department in Buraimi, arrested 50 workers in August for violation of the labor laws and regulations. The arrests were part of the ministry's efforts to regulate the labor market, reduce the practice of hidden trade and curb the irregularities. Most of the irregularities were in commercial establishments (40) , six in agricultural occupations and four in private professions. Around 38 workers were found to be leaving their workplaces. During the same period, 59 workers were deported out of the country as a result of their violations of the provisions of the Labor Law and ministerial decisions, including 49 workers in the commercial professions, seven in private professions and 3 in agricultural professions.
