Duo to be jailed, deported for selling unhygienic food

MUSCAT: The Court of First Instance in Rustaq recently sentenced two Asians to imprisonment for cooking food for sale in unhygienic conditions. The first accused was sentenced to a three-month jail term and the second accused for four months. The court fined the duo RO 500 each and ordered their deportation on completion of their jail terms. The accused were charged with violating the Consumer Protection Law. The Consumer Protection Department in Rustaq, which learned about unlicensed Asian expatriates preparing meals in unhealthy conditions, conducted a raid in cooperation with the Public Prosecution and the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and arrested the duo. The case was transferred to the Public Prosecution and then referred to the competent court, which pronounced its verdict.
