Update: Oman Met issues first report on tropical depression

Muscat: In its first report, the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center said its latest weather analysis has observed a formation of tropical depression southeast of Arabian Sea on October 6 with maximum wind speeds of 17 to 27 knots per hour (31-50km/hr) around the center. It is located at latitude 67.5 E  and longitude 11.7 N about 1,550km from Oman coast. The latest numerical weather predictions forecast show movement of the system towards North-West direction with possibility of further intensification into a deep depression and later into tropical storm within in the next 48 hours, the statement said. There will be no direct impact on the coastal areas of Oman within the next three days. The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center urged public to follow its weather bulletin and report.
