Expat houses raided in Azaiba, 273 arrested for violations

Muscat: The Ministry of Manpower and the Royal Oman Police (ROP) recently conducted a raid on some expatriate houses in the Azaiba area for various types of violations.
A total of 273 workers were arrested and legal proceedings have been initiated against them.
On Sunday, the ministry said that a total of 499 expat workers were arrested in Oman in December for violating labour laws.
The arrested included 96 housemaids, 213 absconding workers and 30 with no official documents
Muscat recorded the highest number of violations with 311 cases, followed by South Batinah with 49 cases.
