KABEER YOUSUF - MUSCAT, JAN 16 - The first outdoor cinema will open at Naseem Garden, one of the Muscat Festival venues, on Thursday. The first of its kind in the country, outdoor cinema is being introduced by Lunar Cinemas. The outdoor cinema allows families to watch films on a massive 15 metres X 3 metres screen, which is expected to give a ‘class experience’, while kids can explore the fun rides around. “Outdoor movie is a novel concept in the Sultanate. We aim to cater to visitors at Naseem Garden throughout the festival,” said Mireille Shoauaib, CEO, Lunar Cinemas. Kept near Gate No 7 next to the Commercial Exhibition Centre, the cinema can seat 200 people, including 32 VIPs and 168 Classic. Two movies will be screened every day, one at 6 pm and another at 8.35 pm. “We brought high definition projection from abroad to give filmgoers a never-before experience. The response has been overwhelming,” said Leydi Arteaga, a representative from Lunar Cinemas. Lunar Cinemas, which opened its doors to the public under the auspices of Sayyidah Hujaija bint Jaifar al Said, Chairperson of the Association of Children with Disabilities, allows people to watch movies just as one watches them on the home theatre. The Arabic and regional language movies are screened at ‘Lunar theatres’ across the country.
