MoCSY holds national concert 'Majestic Peace' today

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth will organise a national concert themed 'Majestic Peace', today November 9. The concert will be held under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information.
The concert will see the participation of 66 performers—including musicians and singers. It constitutes a step forward in the Ministry’s efforts to highlight Oman's national identity and its folkloric heritage.
The concert will be held at Madinat Al Irfan Theatre in partnership with Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. It serves as an exceptional artistic event that blends the deep-rooted traditions of Omani music with the grandeur of contemporary orchestral arrangements.
To be conducted by Maestro Amir bin Awadh bin Bashir Bait Mabrouk, the performance will showcase works inspired by sentiments of belonging to the Omani nation’s identity. It will feature Oman’s rich diversity of traditional art forms, besides making optimum use of the lyrical symbolism of music as a medium of discourse that portrays the loftiest values of cultural identity, unity and peace.
Ibrahim bin Saif Bani Uraba, Assistant Director-General of Arts at Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Oman, said, “This concert ('Majestic Peace') emerges as an artistic embodiment of cultural belonging, loyalty to the homeland and pride over the moral depth of the Omani identity. It celebrates the originality of Omani musical arts that form an integral part of Oman's civilisation and heritage.”
Bani Uraba pointed out that the concert will be organised in pursuance of efforts made by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth to preserve Omani musical heritage and showcase it through modern artistic approaches. This, he explained, will be realised by presenting a host of musical works that blend outstanding Omani characteristics with orchestral arrangements, thus demonstrating the richness and diversity of traditional Omani arts and consolidating their presence in the musical landscape.
The event will lay emphasis on integrating traditional instruments into modern orchestral ensembles, said Bani Uraba, adding that the concert serves as a prominent platform to showcase the potential and high-level proficiency of Omani musicians.
The musical event will span a wide range of elements, including string instruments, wind instruments and percussion instruments — all of which harmonise seamlessly with the voices of a male and female choir and solo vocal performances. The performance highlights the masterful use of traditional Omani instruments like 'Sirany', 'mizmar abu maqrun' and 'qasaba' — within a musical landscape that combines tradition and innovation.
The concert's programme includes six pieces that range between modern musical compositions and national vocal works. — ONA
