Oman’s Arin al Azkawi captured the girls’ singles title at the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) Under-16 tournament in Manama, Bahrain, with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over home player Mariam al Abbasi in the final.
The national team player controlled the contest from the opening set, combining accurate groundstrokes with consistent play to put her Bahraini opponent under pressure. Her composure and ability to limit unforced errors helped her secure the first set 6-1.
Al Abbasi offered greater resistance in the second set, attempting to close the gap and disrupt the Omani player’s rhythm. Al Azkawi, however, maintained her advantage and continued to play with confidence, taking the set 6-3 to seal a straight-sets victory and the title.
Bahrain Tennis Federation President Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak al Khalifa and Vice-President Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid bin Abdullah al Khalifa presented the medals at the closing ceremony, with Al Azkawi receiving the winner’s medal and Al Abbasi finishing runner-up.
Al Azkawi was among three national team players selected by the Oman Tennis Association for tournament appearances in Bahrain at different stages. Abdulrahman al Rahbi and Moataz al Mazrouei were also included in the programme, which aims to give the players further competitive experience and opportunities to collect ranking points.
