KHASAB: Fourteen development and service proposals reviewed by Musandam’s Municipal Council have secured approval from the relevant authorities and entered implementation, covering initiatives including solar power, food security and urban renewal.
The council considered 67 topics and proposals across seven meetings in the first nine months of 2026, said Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Abdullah al Kamzari, its deputy chairman.
The proposals address the needs of the governorate’s wilayats and niyabats, with the council assessing priorities, submitting recommendations and following up with the authorities responsible for implementation.
Initiatives under way include Tawwir Hayyak, or Develop Your Neighbourhood, the allocation of a site for a solar power plant in Madha and the designation of land for two model farms, one for cattle and another for poultry.
Land has also been earmarked for future food security investments, while an urban renewal initiative is being implemented in Lima in the Wilayat of Khasab.
Al Kamzari said the council serves as a link between local communities and government entities, helping translate development and service requirements into proposals and practical solutions.
He said the next phase would require closer coordination with the relevant authorities and more intensive monitoring of recommendations to accelerate implementation, improve efficiency and raise service standards.
A proposal to establish an integrated tourist port in Khasab remains under study. The proposed facility would expand the capacity of the tourism sector, provide specialised services for visitors and strengthen Khasab’s role as a maritime tourism destination.
The council has also submitted a request for exemptions and other support measures for tourism businesses affected by regional conditions.
The request seeks to help affected establishments continue operating, preserve their investments and maintain tourism-related economic activity, reflecting the sector’s importance to Musandam’s economy.
Saif bin Ahmed al Dhahouri, Director of the Municipal Council Affairs Department, said decisions and recommendations are monitored through engagement with the responsible entities under a mechanism with defined timelines.
This allows the council to track the status of individual proposals and the action taken, supporting efforts to improve services for citizens and residents and make better use of the governorate’s economic and tourism resources.
Separately, erosion at Bassa Beach in Khasab has been referred to the relevant authority for assessment and the identification of suitable coastal protection measures. Tidal movements and marine currents were cited as major factors contributing to the erosion.
Hamad bin Ibrahim al Shehhi, Director of Khasab Municipality and spokesperson for Musandam Governorate, said municipal initiatives aim to improve infrastructure, facilities and services in response to urban expansion.
Projects under consideration include lighting in residential areas, children’s playgrounds, a public park and improvements to waterfronts and urban spaces.
These proposals are intended to meet community needs and improve the quality of municipal services as the governorate develops.
The council’s wider work centres on identifying development priorities in consultation with local communities and following recommendations through the approval and implementation process. Its aim is to direct projects towards lasting improvements in services while supporting balanced development across Musandam. – ONA
