IBRA: Al Wafa Centre for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Ibra, Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, celebrated World Occupational Therapy Day, observed annually on October 27, highlighting the role of occupational therapy in improving mobility, daily living skills and independence among children and adults.
Organised by the Directorate-General of Social Development in Al Sharqiyah North, the event brought together parents, government employees and beneficiaries of the centre’s vocational rehabilitation department. It featured presentations on occupational therapy and its applications, alongside a specialised exhibition.
Balqis bint Said al Hajri, head of the centre, said occupational therapy helps children with muscle tension improve movement and participation in daily activities through tailored therapeutic exercises. The services also support people recovering from accidents and fractures in regaining their abilities and independence.
Appropriate therapeutic activities can improve mobility, hand-eye coordination and motor control, while strengthening essential daily living skills such as dressing, eating and handling tools.
During the 2026-2027 rehabilitation year, the centre enrolled 98 cases and provides physical and occupational therapy, speech and communication services, psychological counselling and special education, including early intervention and autism support, as well as vocational rehabilitation. — ONA
