MUSCAT: Oman Airports has signed an agreement with Netherlands-based RESQTEC to establish a specialised aircraft recovery training programme at Muscat International Airport, opening the way for aviation professionals from around the world to receive practical training in Oman.
The agreement, signed on Wednesday, October 28, establishes a long-term training framework focused on the safe recovery and removal of disabled aircraft, particularly those obstructing runways, taxiways and other operational areas.
Such incidents can disrupt flight schedules and airport operations, requiring trained personnel, specialised equipment and close coordination between airport operators and emergency response teams.
Under the partnership, Oman Airports will provide training facilities, suitable aircraft, recovery equipment and operational support, while RESQTEC will supply specialist instructors, course materials and technical expertise.
The programme will combine classroom instruction with practical exercises, allowing participants from airports, airlines and specialist organisations to develop skills in recovery planning, equipment handling and team coordination.
A key element of the agreement is the development of Omani instructors. Oman Airports employees will undergo training, supervision and assessment by RESQTEC, supporting the transfer of specialist knowledge and the development of local expertise.
Saud Al Hubaishi, Chief Operating Officer at Oman Airports, said the partnership would strengthen operational readiness and improve the ability of airport teams to manage incidents involving disabled aircraft.
“Responding to disabled aircraft requires advance preparation, qualified personnel and effective coordination among the organisations involved,” he said.
He added that combining Oman Airports’ facilities and operational experience with RESQTEC’s expertise would help minimise disruptions to air traffic and maintain continuity of airport operations.
Dennis Beck, Global Sales Director at RESQTEC, said the partnership would bring together the facilities, equipment and specialist knowledge needed to develop aircraft recovery skills.
The Netherlands-based company provides aircraft recovery equipment, technical support and specialist training to airports and airlines internationally.
The agreement is also expected to create opportunities for Muscat to attract aviation recovery professionals seeking specialised practical training.
The companies said details of upcoming courses and registration arrangements would be announced jointly. Financial terms and the expected number of trainees were not disclosed.
