Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, on Tuesday met in London with Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the British House of Commons.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the importance of strengthening the existing relations of friendship and cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom, and consolidating the bonds of communication and understanding between the two friendly countries, in order to support the bilateral partnership and enhance the prospects for cooperation in various fields.
The foreign minister also visited the headquarters of the British Parliament in London, at the invitation of Member of Parliament Emily Thornberry, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and representatives of the Council for Arab-British Understanding.
The visit took place in the context of the established Omani-British relations, which are witnessing renewed momentum following the state visit made by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the United Kingdom last week, which opens up broader and wider horizons for bilateral partnership in various fields, and strengthens communication channels at the political and institutional levels.
The visit reflects the importance of the parliamentary dimension in bilateral relations, and its role in consolidating bridges of dialogue and understanding, and enhancing convergence of views on regional and international issues of common interest, in a way that serves mutual interests and supports security and stability efforts. - ONA
