MUSCAT, OCT 24
Al Nahda moved to the top of the 2026-27 Jindal League standings after defeating Saham 1-0, while Al Shabab staged a second-half comeback to beat Samayil 2-1, Seeb overcame Sohar 2-0 and Al Musannah secured a 2-0 victory over Ibri in Friday's sixth-round fixtures.
The results lifted Al Nahda to 13 points from five matches, one ahead of second-placed Al Shabab and third-placed Al Nasr, who have 12 points each. Seeb climbed to fourth with 10 points, strengthening their position among the early title contenders.
At Sohar Sports Complex, defender Ghanim al Habshi headed home the decisive goal in the 45th minute to give Al Nahda a hard-fought victory over Saham.
The hosts enjoyed several promising attacking spells, with Ali al Hashmi and Abdulmuin al Marzouqi troubling Al Nahda's defence. Saham also appealed for a penalty in the 28th minute, but referee Omar al Yaqoubi waved away the claim following a VAR review.
Al Nahda eventually made the breakthrough when Jameel al Yahmadi delivered a free-kick from the left, allowing Al Habshi to rise above the defence and score.
Saham continued to threaten after the interval, with Salem Habib striking the post in the 54th minute before missing another opportunity three minutes later. Ali al Hashmi also had a goal ruled out for offside in the 69th minute.
Despite sustained pressure, Al Nahda goalkeeper Fayez al Rushaidi and his defence preserved the narrow lead. Saham remained fifth in the standings with nine points from six matches.
Meanwhile, Al Shabab overturned an early deficit to defeat Samayil 2-1 at Seeb Sports Stadium, with second-half substitutes playing a decisive role.
Samayil made a flying start when Mutasim al Hakmani scored in the opening minute, capitalising on a defensive mistake. The visitors protected their advantage until half-time, supported by goalkeeper Alaa al Hamadani.
However, Al Shabab's changes immediately paid off as substitute Mohammed al Ghafri equalised in the 47th minute. Fellow substitute Kosi Nokilim completed the comeback in the 78th minute with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area.
The victory took Al Shabab to 12 points and second place on goal difference, while Samayil remained ninth with six points.
AL MUSANNAH BEAT IBRI
Elsewhere, Al Musannah continued their positive run with a 2-0 victory over Ibri at Al Rustaq Sports Complex.
Following a goalless first half, Hazza al Mushaifri broke the deadlock in the 79th minute before Musab al Lamki converted a stoppage-time penalty to seal the result.
The win lifted Al Musannah to seventh place with seven points, while Ibri remained tenth with five points after six matches.
In the day's other fixture, Seeb defeated Sohar 2-0 to register their third league victory of the campaign.
The result moved Seeb into fourth place with 10 points from five matches, keeping them within reach of the leading teams.
Sohar, meanwhile, suffered another setback following their heavy defeat to Al Shabab in the previous round. They remained 13th with five points from six matches and a goal difference of minus nine.
Friday's results further intensified the contest at the top, with Al Nahda holding a narrow advantage as the sixth round continues.
