Oman’s digital economy targets 3,000 jobs a year

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT) launched on Thursday the second phase of its National Digital Economy Programme for 2026–2030.

The programme targets a contribution of RO1.5 billion to the country’s GDP, alongside RO300 million in technology investments and the creation of 3,000 direct jobs annually.

The programme was launched at a ceremony patronised by Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Minister of Finance, and attended by officials.

The event also highlighted the growing role of the digital economy in Oman, announcing that the sector accounted for 9 per cent of GDP, according to the results of a survey conducted this year by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

The second phase aims to expand the digital economy’s contribution through initiatives designed to attract technology investments, create employment opportunities and support the development of Oman’s digital sector over the 2026–2030 period.
