Fawzi al Hubaishi will become the first member of Oman’s delegation to compete at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games when he contests the men’s F54/55 shot put qualification on Monday.
Al Hubaishi faces a strong field featuring some of Asia’s leading throwers as he seeks to secure a place in Thursday’s final. The remaining Omani para athletes continued training in Nagoya, while H4 handcyclist Sami al Sulaimi prepared for the road cycling events.
The Games, featuring more than 2,700 athletes from 45 National Paralympic Committees across 18 sports, were officially declared open by Emperor Naruhito of Japan during a simple ceremony at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Sunday.
Oman’s delegation joined the parade of nations before Asian Paralympic Committee President Majid Rashed welcomed the participating teams and wished the athletes success.
Dr Mansour bin Sultan al Tooqi, Chairman of the Oman Paralympic Committee and head of the delegation, said Oman’s participation represented an important opportunity to strengthen the country’s presence in continental para sport.
He added that the athletes carried a national and humanitarian message founded on determination and ambition, while their participation reflected Oman’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Al Tooqi said competing against Asia’s leading athletes would also allow the Omani squad to gain experience and assess the progress made through its training camps and competitive preparation.

Oman’s programme gathers pace on Tuesday. Mutasim al Saadi will compete in the F53 javelin, Muhanna Awlad Thani in the F33 shot put, Taha al Harrasi in the T36 100 metres and Talib al Balushi in the F56 shot put.
Qusai al Rawahi will contest the T13 100 metres, Othman al Habsi the T12 100 metres and Saif al Muqbali the T46 100 metres.

Al Sulaimi will begin his handcycling campaign on the same day in the individual time trial at the Cycle Sports Center in Izu.
