MUSCAT: Oman’s agriculture, livestock and fisheries sectors expanded 3.3 per cent in real terms in the first half of 2026, supported by investment in production capacity and food security projects.
Their combined contribution to gross domestic product at constant prices reached RO 623.50 million, compared with RO 603.60 million a year earlier, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
The sectors accounted for about 3.2 per cent of total GDP.
Agriculture and livestock output rose 2.6 per cent to RO 352.80 million, while fisheries output increased 4.2 per cent to RO 270.70 million.
Khalisa bint Talib al Hadhrami, Director General of Planning at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, attributed the performance partly to 436 projects implemented or developed between 2021 and 2025, involving investment exceeding RO 1.70 billion.
She said the projects had expanded production capacity and strengthened the competitiveness of activities linked to food security.
Investment and the expansion of productive projects had also supported local supply chains, increased domestic output and improved self-sufficiency, she added.
The ministry is seeking to broaden the investment base and diversify production, with a focus on activities that generate greater economic value.
Al Hadhrami said continued investment would remain central to raising local production and increasing the sectors’ contribution to economic diversification. — ONA
