Muscat: Muscat Municipality has begun construction of a road project to link al Nuzha Street in al Maabilah with the Muscat Expressway, as part of efforts to improve the road network in Muscat Governorate and ease traffic flow amid rapid urban expansion.
The project involves the construction of an 8.08-km dual carriageway, with additional lanes at intersections to increase the road’s capacity. It also includes 3.75 km of single-carriageway service roads to improve connectivity between Al Nuzha Street and the Muscat Expressway and facilitate access to nearby facilities, residential areas and planned developments.
Eng. Sami bin Salim al Rahbi, the project manager, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the project also includes four major intersections equipped with smart traffic signal systems.
These are expected to improve traffic management, reduce congestion and enhance road safety for motorists.
The project forms part of the municipality’s efforts to upgrade road infrastructure in the governorate and accommodate the growing demand on its transport network.
