MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), is hosting the eighth meeting of the Safety Enhancement Implementation Group (SEIG/8) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as well as the meetings of the National Continuous Monitoring Coordinators (NCMC). The meetings are being held in Muscat from October 11 to 13, in cooperation with the ICAO Middle East regional office.
The meetings are attended by representatives of Oman, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Jordan and Nigeria, in addition to representatives of ICAO and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The participants will discuss topics related to aviation safety and priorities in the Middle East region. They will also follow up the outcomes and decisions of the 13th meeting of the Middle East Regional Aviation Safety Group (RASG-MID) and review the progress made in the implementation of safety enhancement initiatives outlined in the Middle East Aviation Safety Plan for the 2026–2028 period.
The meetings also deal with developing and implementing national aviation safety plans and State Safety Programmes (SSPs), as well as updates on the Continuous Monitoring Approach (CMA) within the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP). The sessions will also look into the experiences of national continuous monitoring coordinators from the participating countries, related challenges and the future work programme for enhancing aviation safety at the regional level. — ONA
