Post offices in Oman rise to 338 by end of 2025

MUSCAT: The total number of post offices in the Sultanate of Oman rose to 338 offices by the end of 2025, compared to 282 offices in 2024, recording a growth of 19.9 per cent.
Data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that Muscat Governorate topped the list of governorates in terms of the number of post offices by the end of 2025, with 123 offices, accounting for nearly 36.4 per cent of the total. It was followed by Al Batinah North Governorate with 53 offices, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with 36 offices and Dhofar Governorate with 26 offices, while the number of post offices in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate reached 24 offices, Al Batinah South 23 offices, Al Sharqiyah North 20 offices, Al Dhahirah 16 offices, Al Buraimi nine offices, Musandam seven offices and Al Wusta one office.
Regarding postal traffic indicators, the data revealed that the number of domestic express mail items across all licensed companies increased to nearly 4.39 million items during 2025, compared to about 3.49 million items in 2024, recording a growth of 25.9 per cent. The number of domestic postal parcels also rose from 42,211 parcels in 2024 to 47,812 parcels in 2025, an increase of 13.3 per cent, while government transactions processed through postal services recorded remarkable growth, reaching 75,840 transactions, compared to 30,039 transactions during the previous year.
Conversely, the number of incoming express mail items from abroad reached nearly 3.04 million items during 2025, compared to about 3.24 million items in 2024, while outgoing express mail items to abroad reached 435,130 items, compared to 437,866 items during the previous year. The number of incoming postal parcels from abroad reached 11,620 parcels during 2025, while outgoing parcels to abroad reached 2,717 parcels. Business reply mail recorded within outgoing international postal traffic reached 56,100 items during the same year.
Total private post office boxes by the end of 2025 stood at nearly 24,300 boxes, distributed between 19,371 boxes for individuals and 4,918 boxes for companies. Muscat Governorate accounted for the largest share, with 9,699 boxes for individuals and 3,779 boxes for companies. — ONA
