Tickets for next year's Glastonbury music festival in the UK sold out in 45 minutes on Sunday, organisers said, despite the hefty price tag.
'Tickets for Glastonbury 2027 have now sold out', organisers posted on social media, less than an hour after the general sale began.
Held at Worthy Farm in southwest England, the festival has become a fixture of the international music calendar since launching in 1970, inspired by British hippie and counterculture movements.
Standard tickets cost £408 ($539) for the June 2027 edition, which follows a 'fallow year' without a festival in 2026.
Next year's performers have not been announced, although organisers confirmed that recently reunited Britpop band Oasis will not play, ending months of speculation.
Once a hub for legendary British rockers, Glastonbury has increasingly featured global pop stars alongside festival veterans, including Charli XCX, Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo.
The festival courted controversy in 2025 after Irish rappers Kneecap and London duo Bob Vylan voiced support for Palestinians in Gaza. Police assessed their onstage comments but ultimately took no action against either band.
Frontman Bobby Vylan led chants against the Israeli army, prompting criticism of the BBC's live broadcast.
Last year's festival also saw Lewis Capaldi return emotionally to the Pyramid Stage, two years after stopping a performance while struggling with Tourette symptoms.
Around 210,000 people attended Glastonbury 2025, which featured Neil Young, Rod Stewart, Raye, The Prodigy, Alanis Morissette and Snow Patrol.
The next festival will take place from June 23 to 27, 2027. — AFP
