SUR: Search efforts are continuing for 10-year-old Sbeet al Najadi, who went missing while swimming with friends at Shiya Beach in the Wilayat of Sur on September 30 evening.
The child was caught in rough seas during a drowning incident, prompting a joint search operation involving the Coast Guard Police Unit, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate Police, Police Aviation and the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA).
The operation involves several specialised agencies and teams, with search efforts covering both marine and coastal areas. Specialised diving and rescue teams, along with boats, are being deployed in a continuous effort to locate the missing child.
Members of the public, local volunteers and private organisations have also joined the search. Social media campaigns in multiple languages are urging experienced divers and volunteers to assist with the search or provide any relevant information.
Wissam Masirah Marine Services Company is among the private entities that have responded to the call for assistance.
Salah al Balushi, a local fisherman from Sur, set out with a friend early the following morning to support the official search teams.
“We set out at 6 am in a small boat — just the two of us,” Al Balushi said. “One operated the vessel while the other searched the water. We continued until 1 pm, scouring various areas in the hope of finding him. Search operations are ongoing with police, volunteers and residents, and we hope these collective efforts bring a reassuring outcome.”
Volunteers are coordinating their search activities from the mosque at Shiya Beach. To support those involved in the operation, the Sur Zakat Committee and the Sur Volunteer Team are providing water and meals to search participants.
