The Royal Oman Police (ROP) is taking steady steps toward adopting the latest technologies that strengthen its operational efficiency and improve the quality of policing services. This comes as part of its efforts to support Oman Vision 2040, which targets governance and institutional performance.
The journey of ROP’s digital transformation started with digitalising all the services provided to citizens and residents by replacing the traditional framework with e-services that can be accessed easily from anywhere. Today, presence at physical police stations is not required to complete most of the services, where individuals can apply and submit their applications with one click and at home.
In light of this, Directorate-General of Information Technology has developed more than 650 systems and electronic services, including the ROP Application, which serves as a national example of smart management and service quality. Additionally, it worked to expand service delivery channels, including web portals and self-service kiosks located in strategic locations such as malls and commercial complexes.
The Royal Oman Police has continued to strengthen its digital presence on Tajawob to build bridges of trust and interact with the community. Through this platform, ROP efficiently deals with various inquiries, suggestions, reports, and complaints with an exceptional completion rate. This showcases ROP’s commitment to partnering with citizens and residents to advance police work, promote transparency, and gather feedback to enhance the quality of services provided.
Furthermore, it is critical to note that digitalisation efforts were not limited to institutional performance; they have expanded to support the national economy and facilitate trade movement. More specifically, the Directorate-General of Customs developed the Bayan system to be the nation’s unified digital window customs platform that offers more than 495 services and links 74 government bodies and private firms. This system has contributed positively to reducing clearance times and increasing customs surveillance efficiency.
Artificial intelligence integration is part of ROP’s strategy to cope with global advancements in technology and innovation. Therefore, ROP unveiled the Artificial Intelligence and Future Technologies Center in early January 2026 as an establishment dedicated to developing strategies that adopt AI tools, assessing gaps and threats, constructing operational models that can be integrated into existing security systems, and regulating AI usage by issuing ethical and legal regulatory frameworks.
The Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences plays a pivotal role in reshaping ROP’s service quality and preparing a competent workforce by enhancing its curriculum and academic programmes. To be specific, the Academy has updated both educational and training courses for officers and recruits by integrating AI and advanced technical tools.
As an illustration, it has expanded the use of smart training systems such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to create an interactive learning environment. Furthermore, the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences continues to support scientific research and innovation in AI and future technologies to address legal and operational challenges. Hence, these efforts enable the ROP to build an intellectual workforce of qualified officers who can effectively lead an advanced security framework that adopts AI safely and contributes to police innovation locally and internationally.
Through this journey, ROP’s efforts and initiatives have set an example for other government bodies in coping with digital advancement and excellence in institutional performance. Most importantly, it reaffirms its role in building smart, secure, and technologically advanced nation as it was intended in Oman Vision 2040.
