Oman sees rise in marriage rate, stable divorce rate

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s general marriage rate rose to 5.7 in 2025 from 4.5 a year earlier, while divorce rate remained unchanged at 1.0, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The 2025 figures provide a snapshot of the marital status of Omanis aged 15 and above, with 1,039,382 recorded as married. This included 521,712 women and 517,670 men.

The data showed that 754,328 Omanis had never married, comprising 413,696 men and 340,632 women.

Among those recorded as divorced, women outnumbered men, with 39,484 women compared with 23,406 men, bringing the total to 62,890.

According to NCSI, the same pattern was evident among widowed Omanis, with 61,132 women and 7,678 men recorded as widowers, out of a total of 68,810.

The figures highlight a marked difference between the number of women and men recorded as divorced or widowed among Omanis aged 15 and above.
