Oman affirms commitment to combat racism

NEW YORK: The Sultanate of Oman has affirmed its commitment to international efforts aimed at combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance, safeguarding human dignity, and promoting the values of equality and mutual respect. This came during its participation in the high-level meeting to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Oman underscored the importance of translating international principles and commitments into tangible impact on the lives of peoples and communities.
The Sultanate of Oman's delegation was led by Shaikh Ambassador Mohammed bin Abdullah al Qatabi, Head of the Organizations Department at the Foreign Ministry.
The Sultanate of Oman highlighted its steadfast approach based on dialogue, understanding, and coexistence, and the national and international initiatives it has translated into action, including the 'Message of Peace' and 'Human Fraternity,' alongside the 'Muscat Action Plan,' which was launched at the United Nations Headquarters in June of this year. The Plan aims to enhance the roles of traditional and indigenous leaders in countering hate speech and incitement, preventing genocide and atrocity crimes, and contributing to mediation and peacemaking.
In the conclusion of its statement, the Sultanate of Oman emphasised the importance of strengthening international cooperation, linking global commitments to action at the local level, benefiting from knowledge and expertise rooted in communities, and enhancing youth participation. It renewed its determination to continue working with the United Nations and the international community towards a world in which human dignity is safeguarded, diversity is respected, and differences are transformed into spaces for mutual understanding, cooperation, and peacebuilding. — ONA
