Sadah event brings astronomy closer to the public

SADAH: An astronomy event was held in the Soub area of the Wilayat of Sadah to promote astronomical awareness and foster interest in space and astronomy among members of the community.
Organised by the Office of the Wali of Sadah in cooperation with the Astronomical Observatory of Dhofar Governorate, the event featured a range of scientific and educational activities introducing participants to celestial bodies and planets.
The programme included practical observations of Venus and Jupiter, as well as the phases of the Moon, using modern astronomical telescopes. It also featured presentations on eclipses and methods of observing the crescent Moon, along with interactive scientific and cultural activities.
Dr Eng Awad bin Said al Saadouni, Head of the Astronomical Observatory in Dhofar, said the event provided participants with an opportunity to learn about astronomical objects and phenomena in a simplified manner and experience direct observation, linking theoretical knowledge with practical application.
He said Soub was chosen for the event because of its favourable location and relative distance from light pollution, providing suitable conditions for observing the night sky and celestial bodies clearly.
Al Saadouni stressed the observatory’s commitment to fostering a passion for science and exploration among members of the community, particularly students and young people. The event was sponsored by Shaikh Dr Ahmed bin Ali al Daree, Wali of Sadah. — ONA
