Kidney conference calls for stronger prevention, early detection

SALALAH: The Fourth International Conference on Kidney Diseases and Transplantation has called for strengthening prevention and early detection programmes for kidney diseases, while adopting modern technologies to monitor patients and improve the quality of healthcare.
Organised by the Omani Society for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation in cooperation with the Directorate-General of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate, the conference concluded at the Millennium Hotel in Salalah.
The three-day event brought together doctors, experts, researchers and specialists from Oman and 15 other countries to discuss the latest developments in the prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases and kidney failure, as well as advances in kidney transplantation.
The conference also recommended enhancing the skills of healthcare professionals, supporting scientific research and joint studies, and promoting organ donation and kidney transplantation.
Participants stressed the importance of continuing to organise specialised scientific conferences to facilitate the exchange of expertise and strengthen partnerships between healthcare and academic institutions, contributing to the development of kidney disease and transplantation services and improving patients’ quality of life.
The conference programme included three specialised training and practical workshops covering peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis and histopathology.
A scientific and clinical research competition was also held, with four winning research papers honoured. The papers will be published in the WARM journal of the Omani Society for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation. — ONA
