Hand surgery conference highlights latest advances in treatment, reconstruction

MUSCAT: The annual conference of the Omani Hand Surgery Association for 2026 was held in Muscat and brought together specialists in hand and upper limb surgery from Oman, the GCC countries and several other countries.
The conference aims to facilitate the exchange of scientific and practical expertise, highlight the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of hand, wrist and upper limb injuries and diseases, and promote continuing medical education and research cooperation among specialists.
The event is organised by the Omani Hand Surgery Association in cooperation with the orthopaedic, plastic and reconstructive surgery teams at the University Medical City.
The scientific programme includes lectures and specialised sessions covering complex hand and wrist injuries, surgical reconstruction, nerve and tendon injuries, fractures of the hand and upper limb, the latest technologies in hand surgery, and rehabilitation following injuries and surgical procedures.
The conference also features discussions of complex clinical cases and challenges facing specialists through interactive sessions aimed at sharing experiences and examining the latest treatment methods and evidence-based practices.
A series of specialised practical and training workshops will focus on developing participants’ clinical and surgical skills and strengthening the link between scientific knowledge and clinical practice.
Dr Ahmed al Ghaithi, chairman of the Omani Hand Surgery Association Conference 2026 and vice-president of the association, said the conference provides a platform for bringing together local, regional and international expertise in hand and upper limb surgery.
He said the event aims to contribute to the development of medical practice, continuing education and training, while strengthening scientific and research cooperation among specialists and relevant institutions.
Al Ghaithi added that the scientific programme was designed to address complex clinical and surgical issues and challenges, giving doctors and trainees an opportunity to benefit from the expertise of participating specialists and learn about the latest technologies and practices in hand surgery, reconstruction and rehabilitation.
The conference, held under the auspices of Dr Siham al Sinani, president of the University Medical City, features speakers from Oman, the GCC and other countries who are delivering specialised lectures and participating in discussions on recent developments and technologies in hand surgery, reconstruction and rehabilitation.
The conference forms part of the Omani Hand Surgery Association’s efforts to promote continuing medical education and scientific research, facilitate knowledge exchange among related specialities and contribute to improving specialised healthcare services in Oman. — ONA
