MUSCAT, SEPT 24
Omani companies seeking to enter the US market could receive support ranging from export-readiness assessments to help meeting US regulatory requirements, under a proposed package outlined by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) on Thursday.
The package was presented at a business meeting on access to the US market that OCCI organised through Oman Trade Office US. The meeting also covered the Oman-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and opportunities for Omani companies in US government contracting.
In opening remarks, Mohammed bin Hamood al Abri, Director General of the Research and Studies Centre at OCCI, said the meeting aimed to give business owners information and practical tools to understand the requirements of the US market and explore ways to access it. “The Oman Trade Office is one of the tools the Chamber uses to support direct communication between Omani companies and the entities and opportunities available in the US market,” he added.
He said it does this by highlighting business opportunities, easing access to relevant information, and helping companies find suitable ways to develop their businesses in the US.
Emmee Haun, Managing Director of Oman Trade Office US, outlined the office’s objectives. These include strengthening bilateral trade relations, helping Omani exports enter and expand in the US market, and improving Omani companies’ readiness and competitiveness.
The office also aims to attract US investment into Oman and Omani companies, and to strengthen partnerships between the two business communities.
According to the presentation, the proposed package of support and advisory services would begin with assessing companies’ export readiness and whether their products suit the US market.
It would also provide guidance on using the FTA and help companies meet US requirements on packaging, labelling, certification, and standards.
OCCI said the meeting was part of its efforts to strengthen the presence of Omani products and services in global markets. It also aims to help national companies benefit from trade agreements and export opportunities.
The meeting also included a presentation of one company’s success story, networking, and one-to-one meetings with the office’s representatives to discuss companies’ needs and answer questions on accessing the US market.
