Credit Oman renews basketball partnership for fifth year

The Credit Oman Cup for men and women will return for its fifth edition after the Oman Basketball Association (OBA) and Credit Oman renewed their partnership to support the elite basketball competition.
The memorandum of cooperation was signed by Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of the OBA, and Haitham bin Abdullah al Yaqoubi, General Manager of Insurance and Claims at Credit Oman, extending a partnership that has supported four previous editions.
Speaking after the signing, Al Naabi said the agreement would help sustain the competition and support the association’s efforts to expand participation in basketball. He described the partnership as a successful example of the private sector’s contribution to the sport.
“Renewing this partnership for a fifth consecutive year supports the association’s plans to promote basketball and ensure the continued staging of the Super Cup,” he said.
Al Naabi thanked Credit Oman’s board for its continued backing and called on other private sector organisations to sponsor the association’s competitions, including the national league, junior and youth leagues, and women’s events.
He said broader support would help develop talented players and strengthen the skills of those working in basketball, benefiting clubs and national teams across different age groups. These efforts, he added, would improve the ability of Omani teams to compete internationally.
Al Naabi also highlighted the tournament’s role in preparing players for the domestic season, with both the men’s and women’s competitions offering valuable match practice.
“The Credit Oman Cup for men and women is an important competition that helps players prepare for the national league and the association’s other tournaments,” he said.
For his part, Al Yaqoubi said the company’s support formed part of its social responsibility programme and reflected its commitment to contributing to the development of sport, particularly basketball.
“This agreement with the Oman Basketball Association will contribute to sporting activity and promote sportsmanship among young people,” he said.
Al Yaqoubi explained that supporting sport was part of a wider strategic approach to empowering Omani youth. He said Credit Oman sought to contribute to community development by encouraging sporting participation and providing a supportive environment for emerging talent.
