Oman Youth Handball League to begin with six matches

The Oman Youth Handball League for the 2026-27 season will get underway on Friday, with 12 clubs competing in the tournament for players born in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The league is the first competition on the Oman Handball Association’s programme for the new season, which features eight tournaments targeting different age groups. The competitions are aimed at strengthening the grassroots structure of handball in Omani clubs, developing young talent and providing a pathway for promising players to progress to the national teams for upcoming international commitments.
The 12 participating clubs have been divided into two groups of six. Group One comprises Nizwa, Muscat, Ibri, Al Ittihad, Al Amerat and Masirah, while Group Two features Seeb, Oman Club, Majees, Saham, Al Rustaq and Al Khabourah.
Six matches will be played on Friday in the opening round. In Group One, Al Ittihad will face Nizwa at 3 pm at Oman Club’s indoor hall, followed by the meeting between Muscat and Ibri at 5pm at the same venue. The third Group One fixture will see Al Amerat take on Masirah at 4pm at the indoor hall of Sur Sports Complex.
Group Two will also feature three matches. At Khabourah Club’s indoor hall, Saham will meet Seeb at 3 pm, followed by the match between Al Khabourah and Majees at 5 pm. Al Rustaq will then face Oman Club at 7 pm at Oman Club’s indoor hall.
The competition will continue on Saturday with six matches in the second round. In Group One, Al Ittihad will play Ibri at 3 pm at Al Amal Club’s indoor hall, while Nizwa will meet Al Amerat at 5pm at the same venue. Muscat will face Masirah at 4 pm at the indoor hall of Sur Sports Complex.
In Group Two, Al Khabourah Club’s indoor hall will host the matches between Saham and Majees at 3 pm and Al Khabourah and Al Rustaq at 5 pm. Seeb will meet Oman Club at 4 pm at the indoor hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.
Each group will be played on a single round-robin basis, with points accumulated throughout the group stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round.
In the second round, the winners of the two groups will be paired against the runners-up from the opposite group over two matches. The first-placed team in Group One will face the second-placed team in Group Two, while the winner of Group Two will meet the runner-up from Group One. If the teams are level on points and goal difference after the two matches, the winner will be decided directly by penalty shoot-out, without extra time.
