Oman to host Gulf’s first World Wind Energy Conference in 2027

Oman will host the 23rd World Wind Energy Conference (WWEC2027) in December 2027, marking the first time the global wind industry gathering will be staged in the Gulf region as the Sultanate of Oman accelerates investment in utility-scale wind power.
The World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) announced Oman as the host following a decision by its board, with the event to be jointly organised by Nama Power and Water Procurement (Nama PWP) and WWEA, with the support of Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals.
The announcement was made at WindEnergy Hamburg 2026, where Omani officials and WWEA representatives highlighted the Sultanate's growing potential as a regional hub for wind and other renewable-energy development.
Mohsin bin Hamad al Hadhrami, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, said hosting the conference would provide Oman with a global platform to showcase its renewable-energy opportunities, strengthen international partnerships and attract strategic investment in support of Oman Vision 2040 and the country's net-zero 2050 ambitions.
Ahmed bin Salim al Abri, CEO of Nama PWP, highlighted the potential of Dhofar and Al Wusta Governorates to emerge as major centres for utility-scale wind generation, creating opportunities for international developers, technology providers and investors.
The hosting agreement was signed by Al Abri and Stefan Gsänger, Secretary General of WWEA.
WWEA President Dr Irfan Mirza said bringing the conference to Oman would connect the Sultanate's renewable-energy ambitions with international experience, technology, investment and cooperation, helping accelerate the development of wind projects.
Gsänger said the decision was aligned with WWEA's focus on supporting 'emerging and fast-growing markets', while pointing to the significant renewable-energy potential of Oman and the wider Middle East.
The conference will arrive at an important juncture in Oman's wind-power development programme. Nama PWP is overseeing a growing portfolio of projects designed to diversify the country's electricity mix and reduce dependence on natural gas-fired generation.
Among them is the 125 MW Dhofar II Wind IPP, being developed by Sembcorp Utilities and OQ Alternative Energy and targeted for commercial operation in the third quarter of 2027. The 120 MW Jaalan Bani Bu Ali Wind IPP, developed by EDF power solutions, Al Khadra Partners and OQ Alternative Energy, is also scheduled to begin operations during 2027.
Further wind developments are planned across Duqm, Mahout, Sadah and other locations, reinforcing Al Wusta and Dhofar as important centres of Oman's emerging wind-energy industry.
Founded in 2001, WWEA represents more than 600 members across around 100 countries. Its World Wind Energy Conference series, launched in Berlin in 2002, brings together policymakers, developers, investors, technology companies and renewable-energy specialists.
