MUSCAT, SEPT 22
Oman Sports Channel is set to deliver extensive coverage of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup in Jeddah after securing the rights to broadcast the regional football showpiece, which kicks off on Wednesday.
The channel has also unveiled a dedicated programming line-up for the tournament, featuring five television and digital shows alongside live match coverage, analysis and on-site reporting from Saudi Arabia.
Details of the coverage plan were presented during a media briefing in Muscat, where Sultanate of Oman Television officials outlined the channel’s preparations for the championship, which runs from September 23 to October 6 and features eight Gulf national teams.
The Ministry of Information, represented by the Directorate General of Radio and Television, had earlier announced that Oman Sports Channel had obtained the broadcast rights for the tournament through the channel’s official Instagram account.
Speaking during the briefing, Said bin Taman al Amri, Director-General of Sultanate of Oman Television, highlighted the special place the Gulf Cup holds in the region, noting that the tournament has grown beyond competition on the pitch to become closely associated with the sporting memories and history of Gulf citizens.
He said the championship has contributed over the years to the development of sporting infrastructure in participating countries while also offering host nations an opportunity to showcase their cultural, historical, tourism and economic attractions.
PROMINENT STARS
Al Amri also pointed to the Gulf Cup’s role in producing prominent players, coaches and media professionals who later went on to achieve success at regional and international levels.
Turning to Oman’s participation, Al Amri stressed the importance of the national media’s role in supporting the national football team and called for balanced coverage throughout the tournament.
He urged media professionals not to judge the team solely on its opening match, recalling Oman’s campaign at Gulf Cup 23, when the national side recovered from defeat against the UAE in their first game before going on to win the title.
Al Amri said the media maintained its support for the team throughout that campaign, while stressing that such backing did not mean avoiding criticism. Instead, he called for constructive and objective criticism that serves the interests of the team.
He added that continued media and public support would be particularly important as the national team faces further major assignments after the Gulf Cup, including preparations for the AFC Asian Cup 2027.
Al Amri said Oman Sports Channel’s coverage of Khaleeji 27 reflects its national role in supporting the national team and meeting the strong interest of Omani supporters in one of the region’s most popular football competitions.
FIVE-PROGRAMME LINE-UP
Mohammed bin Ali al Zuwaidi, Acting Director of Oman Sports Channel, outlined five programmes prepared specifically for the tournament as part of the channel’s television and digital coverage.
'Nabd Al Khaleej' will be broadcast live from Jeddah from 2 pm to 4 pm, offering coverage of the sporting and technical aspects of the tournament as well as features on the host city and Saudi Arabia.
Presented by Jamal al Hasani alongside a team of correspondents, the programme will also host sporting, media and other personalities who have been associated with previous editions of the Gulf Cup.
'Al Dikka' will air live for two hours following the matches, reviewing Oman’s fixtures and the other encounters in the championship while focusing on key moments, match atmosphere and reactions from players and media representatives.
The programme will be presented by Khamis al Balushi, with Hilal al Mukhaini, Ismail al Ajmi, Saleh al Saqri and Alaa Hubail among its contributors, alongside correspondents covering the tournament from Jeddah.
'Sada Al Jamaheer', presented by Said al Kharousi at 4 pm, will provide a platform for Omani and Gulf supporters to share their views on matches and results. The programme will feature live links with correspondents in Jeddah as well as audience participation through telephone calls and social media.
Oman Sports Channel will also provide a dedicated analytical studio beginning one hour before matches, offering technical and tactical discussion with coaches, former players and football specialists. The studio will be presented by Hussain al Omairi, Younis al Fahdi, Jahnoon al Hadhari, and Ahmed al Buraiki.
Completing the line-up is 'Min Jeddah' , a digital programme presented by Fahad al Mashaikhi across Oman Sports Channel’s social media platforms, highlighting the atmosphere and activities surrounding the tournament from the host city.
The media briefing also featured a visual presentation of the channel’s coverage plans, promotional posters and materials carrying the visual identity prepared for Khaleeji 27.
Sports analysts attending the session praised Oman Sports Channel’s coverage of major sporting events and the variety of programmes prepared for the Gulf Cup, which will combine live matches, analysis, supporter reactions and reports from Jeddah.
The coverage forms part of Sultanate of Oman Television’s efforts to follow the national team throughout Khaleeji 27 and provide Omani audiences with comprehensive coverage of one of the Gulf region’s most prominent football tournaments.
