Municipality clarifies role in al Ghubra Bridge project

Muscat: Muscat Municipality clarified that the project currently being implemented by the private sector in al Ghubra area is subject to the technical approvals and requirements issued by the municipality’s specialised departments.

The municipality explained that it is neither the project's owner nor the entity directly responsible for its implementation, noting that its

role is limited to supervision and oversight within its area of jurisdiction, in line with its responsibilities for regulating traffic and enhancing transport infrastructure in the city.

In a statement, the municipality pointed out that the technical approvals required for projects carried out by private-sector developers are issued on the basis that the project owner and developer assume responsibility for its management and supervision, with the works being carried out through contracts with specialised construction companies and consultancy offices.

The clarification follows the municipality’s continued monitoring of the project, during which a number of technical challenges emerged during the implementation stages.

These include works to complete the connection between the commercial building and the existing bridge, particularly in relation to levels, elevations and the integration of existing and newly constructed elements.

The municipality said these issues have required a review of certain technical and construction aspects of the project to ensure that the works meet the required standards.

It added that the executing company is currently addressing a number of technical and implementation challenges that have affected the progress of the project.

Speaking about the resumption of the project, the municipality said it is coordinating with the developer, project owner and supervising consultant to review the project drawings, plans and work programme and identify appropriate technical solutions to address the outstanding issues.

It further noted that once the necessary reviews and coordination are completed, the project works will resume in accordance with an updated implementation programme, while ensuring compliance with technical requirements, safety standards and traffic and transport infrastructure requirements in the area.
