Leaders to discuss regional tensions

The Sultanate of Oman is participating in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, to be held from September 22-28.
The session will discuss the most prominent issues and challenges facing the world, as well as ways to enhance joint international action to consolidate peace and security and achieve sustainable development.
The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman is headed by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, among a high-level international presence bringing together state leaders, heads of government, foreign ministers, and representatives of member states.
The convening of the 81st session comes at a time when the world is going through a delicate phase marked by escalating crises and conflicts, alongside growing political, economic, humanitarian, and climate challenges, in addition to consecutive tensions and crises in the region that cast a shadow over regional and international security and stability.
Under these circumstances, the Sultanate of Oman continues its diplomatic approach based on dialogue and understanding, advocating for prioritising peaceful and political solutions, and respecting the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, thereby contributing to containing tensions and creating appropriate conditions to address crises through diplomacy and dialogue, away from escalation and expanding circles of conflict.
The General Assembly meetings constitute an important occasion to reaffirm the Sultanate of Oman's vision regarding a number of regional and international issues, chief among which is the importance of enhancing opportunities for peace, settling disputes through peaceful means, and supporting security and stability, alongside strengthening international cooperation in the fields of sustainable development, economy, energy, climate, and other issues of common interest.
The participation of the Omani delegation is expected to feature a busy diplomatic programme, including participation in a number of high-level meetings and events, in addition to bilateral and multilateral meetings with officials and representatives of several countries and international organisations. These meetings will discuss bilateral relations, exchange views on current issues, and explore broader prospects for cooperation and partnership.
Omar bin Said al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, emphasised that the high-level participation of the Sultanate of Oman in the work of the session represents an important opportunity to renew its diplomatic message calling for supporting and enhancing preventive diplomacy and settling disputes through peaceful means, as well as highlighting the priorities of Omani diplomacy embodied in dialogue, mutual understanding, and collective action in building a more peaceful, stable, and sustainable future.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), he pointed out that the participation comes as an affirmation of the importance of multilateral cooperation, sustainable development, and increasing respect for human dignity and coexistence.
