Majlis Ash’shura participates inInter-Parliamentary Union meeting

CAIRO: The Majlis Ash’shura participated in the work of the 43rd session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was held today in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Shaikh, President of the Union, with broad participation from representatives of Arab councils and parliaments.
During the meeting, the committee discussed a number of topics listed on its agenda and reviewed reports submitted by competent committees, alongside the report of the Secretariat General regarding the Union's activities over the past period.
The meeting featured discussions on developments concerning candidacy for the position of President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and examined the emergency item that the Arab Parliamentary Group intends to submit during the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled to be held in the city of Arusha, Republic of Tanzania, next October.
The meeting also discussed the proposed initiative to enhance joint parliamentary cooperation within the framework of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), as well as the request submitted by the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) regarding granting observer status to the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The Council was represented at the meeting by Dr Hamoud bin Ahmed al Yahyai, Member of the Majlis Ash’shura and Member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union. - ONA
