Dubai announces 10 days of mourning following Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid’s death

DUBAI: Dubai has announced 10 days of official mourning following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the younger brother of Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Ahmed died on Monday at the age of 76. Flags will be flown at half-mast across Dubai throughout the mourning period.

Born in Bur Dubai on July 12, 1950, Sheikh Ahmed was the fourth and youngest son of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. He served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security and headed A.R.M. Holding, Dubai Real Estate Centre and Al Wasl Sports Club.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan offered condolences and recalled Sheikh Ahmed’s contributions to the country’s development. Sheikh Mohammed and Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also paid tribute to him.
