Labour awareness programme organised

MUSCAT: The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat organised a Labour Safety and Awareness Programme at Nepal House to mark Nepal’s Constitution Day and raise awareness among Nepali workers in Oman about labour-related issues.
The programme focused on workers’ safety, labour permit renewal, Social Security Fund payments and financial literacy. It also included a condolence ceremony for those who lost their lives in the devastating flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26.
Representatives of Nepali organisations in Oman, members of the Expert Group, volunteers and members of the Nepali community attended the event.
Bishesh Kumar Sah, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nepal, highlighted key features of Nepal’s Constitution, particularly its provisions promoting inclusiveness and participation. Sah also briefed participants on the Embassy’s initiatives to strengthen Nepal-Oman bilateral relations and its upcoming programmes. He highlighted issues related to workers’ safety and labour awareness and stressed the importance of financial literacy.
He appreciated the support extended by Nepali organisations in Oman and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to supporting the Nepali community.
Damodar Gnawali, Labour Attaché, outlined some of the labour-related problems faced by Nepali workers and the measures being taken to address them. He stressed the importance of obtaining adequate information before travelling abroad for employment.
Gnawali also urged members of the Nepali community in Oman to help create awareness and support workers who encounter difficulties.
A key feature of the programme was a practical presentation by Shyam Krishna Bhattarai, a member of the Embassy’s Expert Group, on obtaining labour permits through the Department of Foreign Employment (DOFE) website.
Bhattarai also demonstrated the procedure for making payments to the Social Security Fund and encouraged participants to familiarise themselves with the processes so they could assist others who may have difficulty completing them independently.
