MUSCAT, SEPT 16
The Oman Marine Sports Committee (OMSC) and Al Sifah Development Tourism Company have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in marine sports and supporting events that bring together sporting, community and tourism activities.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between the two sides in developing marine-related activities, enhancing the organisation of events and supporting initiatives that can contribute to the promotion of Al Sifah as a tourism destination.
The partnership will also focus on strengthening the administrative and organisational aspects of the fishing event organised by Al Sifah Development Tourism Company, while highlighting marine activities and providing opportunities for Omani personnel involved in the planning and management of such events.
Under the memorandum, Al Sifah Development Tourism Company may provide support for one of the OMSC's programmes or activities related to marine sports during the validity of the agreement. The value of the support and the arrangements for providing it will be determined through separate agreements or implementation letters to be concluded between the two parties.
The committee will, in turn, provide organisational, logistical and supervisory assistance for the fishing event organised by the company, subject to its available resources and responsibilities, as well as arrangements agreed by both sides.
Shaikh Ali bin Said Bait Fadhel, OMSC Chairman, described the agreement as an important step towards strengthening cooperation with the tourism sector and supporting marine events in Oman.
BOOSTING MARINE EVENTS
He said the partnership would provide an opportunity to develop and organise marine activities while making greater use of Omani expertise and national personnel working in the field.
“The signing of this memorandum represents an important step in strengthening cooperation with the tourism sector and supporting marine events,” Shaikh Ali said. “Through this partnership, we will work to provide organisational, logistical and supervisory support for the agreed activities, in line with the committee’s capabilities and responsibilities.”
Mohammed Abdulaziz, Group Chief Financial Officer at Al Sifah Development Tourism Company, said the agreement reflected the company’s commitment to working with organisations involved in marine sports and supporting events that combine sporting, community and tourism elements.
He stressed the importance of bringing together the expertise and capabilities of both organisations to ensure the successful delivery of marine events hosted and organised by the company.
“Cooperation with the Oman Marine Sports Committee will help strengthen the organisational and supervisory aspects of our events,” Mohammed said. “It will also enhance their profile in a manner that reflects the tourism importance of Al Sifah as a destination.”
The partnership comes as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between Oman’s sports and tourism institutions and support initiatives that can contribute to the growth of tourism-related activities.
By combining sporting and tourism activities, the two sides aim to create a stronger platform for marine events, promote greater community engagement and provide wider opportunities for Omani personnel to contribute to the organisation and management of such activities.
The agreement also underlines the potential of marine sports to support Oman’s tourism offering, while contributing to the promotion of Al Sifah and its coastal attractions as a destination for sporting and recreational activities.
