12 clubs set for Oman Junior Handball League

The Oman Handball Association’s (OHA) Competitions Committee has announced the fixtures, regulations and competition rules for the 2026-27 Junior Handball League, with 12 clubs set to compete in the tournament for players born in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The participating clubs are Nizwa, Seeb, Muscat, Saham, Oman Club, Al Rustaq, Al Ittihad, Masirah, Majees, Al Amerat, Ibri and Al Khabourah. They have been divided into two groups of six teams each.
Group A comprises Muscat, Nizwa, Masirah, Al Amerat, Ibri and Al Ittihad, while Group B features Seeb, Oman Club, Majees, Al Khabourah, Saham and Al Rustaq.
The league will get under way on September 25 with six matches on the opening day, three in each group.
In Group A, Al Ittihad will face Nizwa at 4 pm at the main indoor hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The same venue will then host the match between Muscat and Ibri at 6 pm. The third Group A fixture will see Al Amerat take on Masirah at 4 pm at the indoor hall of Sur Sports Complex.

Three matches are also scheduled in Group B. Saham will meet Seeb at 4 pm at Al Khabourah Club’s indoor hall, followed by the encounter between Al Khabourah and Majees at 6 pm at the same venue. Al Rustaq will host Oman Club at 4 pm at the indoor hall of Al Rustaq Sports Complex.
Under the competition format, the six teams in each group will play a single round-robin league, with points determining the standings. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round.
In the second round, the Group A winners will meet the Group B runners-up over two matches, while the Group B winners will face the Group A runners-up in another two-match tie.
If the two teams are level on points and goal difference after the two matches, the winner will be decided directly by a penalty shoot-out, without extra time.
The winners of the two second-round ties will advance to the final to determine the league champions, while the losing teams will meet in a third-place play-off.
FINANCIAL PRIZES
The OHA has also allocated trophies, medals and financial prizes for the top three teams.
The champions will receive a commemorative shield or cup, 28 gold medals and a financial prize. The runners-up will be awarded 28 silver medals and a financial prize, while the third-placed team will receive 28 bronze medals and a financial prize.
The competition is expected to provide young players with valuable competitive experience while supporting the development of the next generation of Omani indoor handball talent.
