‘Salalah Eye’: A distinguished tourism project in Dhofar Governorate

In recent years, Salalah has succeeded in attracting a growing number of development projects, particularly in tourism, as well as in the industrial and services sectors. Domestic tourism has increasingly turned toward the region, which enjoys a pleasant summer climate and offers a welcome escape from the extreme heat experienced across much of the Gulf. At the same time, Dhofar has witnessed tangible progress in a wide range of service, leisure, and entertainment projects. It is blessed with numerous natural and tourism assets of world-class appeal. These attractions have encouraged many Omani families, as well as Gulf, Arab, and international tourists, to visit this unique part of the world.
Journalists and media professionals recently participated in the fifth Media Forum of the Oman Journalists Association, held from September 5 to 9. A group of them also visited the “Salalah Eye” project, which is located along Al Hafa Beach.
The recently opened “Salalah Eye” project is one of the governorate’s distinctive entertainment and tourism developments. It reflects the concept of investing in the beauty of a destination and environmental characteristics that make Dhofar unique. The project is now making a significant contribution to diversifying the tourism offering and supporting the local economy. It is also strengthening tourism activity in the governorate.
“Salalah Eye” represents one of the initiatives aimed at enriching the tourism experience in Oman as a whole. This comes at a time when the “Muttrah Cable Car” project is also expected to be launched in the near future, further enhancing the attractiveness of Oman’s tourism assets and contributing to the development of tourism across the country and the wider region.
The 'Salalah Eye' project offers visitors a new experience that combines leisure, entertainment, and shopping in a beautiful coastal setting. Over the past two decades, this area has attracted significant numbers of tourists due to the availability of the services sought by visitors, particularly tourists from the Gulf region. The number of tourists who visited the Governorate during this summer, up to the end of August 2026, reached approximately 1.1 million.
This development has also contributed to strengthening air connectivity to and from Dhofar Governorate. The number of daily flights to and from Salalah Airport has increased in recent times, reaching as many as 90 flights per day. This demonstrates the growing momentum of both domestic and international tourism to the governorate, supported by the continued development of services that enable visitors to enjoy their stay and make better use of the destination’s attractions.
Dhofar Municipality has played an important role in encouraging investors to develop 'Salalah Eye'. This effort has been complemented by the work of investment-related authorities in implementing this important development, which reflects the significance of public-private partnerships in advancing tourism and entertainment projects—not only in Dhofar, but throughout the Sultanate of Oman.
The 'Salalah Eye' project provides visitors with an upscale experience and an opportunity to enjoy panoramic views of Salalah from a distance, while also taking in the waves of the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean and the spectacular natural landscapes that distinguish Dhofar Governorate.
The relevant authorities hope that the project will contribute further to tourism and economic activity in the governorate in the coming years by attracting larger numbers of tourist groups, stimulating urban, commercial, and service activity, diversifying sources of income, and increasing the contribution of the tourism sector to Oman’s broader economic development.
