Sayyid Tarik bin Taimur Cultural Complex to receive commissioned artworks

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) has issued invitation to received commissioned artworks for the Sayyid Tarik bin Taimur Cultural Complex.

The invitation is for artists and designers of any nationality, based in Oman or internationally, emerging and established practitioners.
Collaborative proposals between artists and artisans will be strongly encouraged.

Selected artists will receive production costs, curatorial and technical support, public and media presence, support for artisans and cost coverage.

Works should draw inspirations from Omani heritage, traditions, and seafaring history, contemporary concepts, technology, and design, performance, music, storytelling, and architecture, collaborating directly with local craftspeople and traditional techniques.

Works may include, but are not limited to installation, sculpture, mixed media, design-led artworks, textile-based works, contemporary craft and digital or hybrid practices.

Located in Al-Seeb on a 400,000 square metre site, the cultural destination will bring together nationally significant landmarks including the 23,000 square metre National Library, the 22,500 square metre National Archives, the 16,300 square metre National Theatre with 1,000-seat and 252-seat auditoriums, the 13,165 square metre Cultural Plaza, four facilities buildings and an 8,000 square metre Energy & Data Centre.

All of this will be centred around an urban plaza and set within landscaped gardens, water features and a signature canopy structure, according to Mace, the Project Management Consultancy.
