Anitha Shaiq to perform in Muscat

MUSCAT: Anitha Shaiq, acclaimed Sufi singer and music composer, will be performing to a packed audience in Muscat at the Al Falaj Grand Sphere on September 18, as part of the Onam festivities of the Indian Social Club- Kerala Wing under the auspices of the Indian Ambassador Prashant Pise.
She is to perform Indian classical, Sufi, Ghazal, folk and pop music, and songs in a variety of languages including Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Oriya, Punjabi, and Tamil as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Indian Social Club Oman – Kerala Wing, according to the organisers.
Speaking to the media, the organisers said that the event aims to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the Kerala Wing, which has been actively engaged in social, cultural, and welfare activities for the expatriate community in Oman for a quarter of a century, coinciding with the Onam celebrations, a key symbol of Malayali cultural heritage, through a variety of artistic performances.
Tawshi Behl Pandey, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy, will inaugurate the Onam celebrations at 11am on September 18. This will be followed by an Onasadya (traditional Onam feast) for invited guests and members. The cultural event will begin at 6.30pm in the presence of a large gathering of both Omanis and expatriates including Dr P Mohamed Ali, a prominent industrialist and Chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology, along with Suhail Khan, Chairman of the Indian Social Club Oman, and Shakeel KM, General Secretary, as guests of honour.
Notable activities of the Kerala Wing, registered with the Ministry of Social Development, include arts and cultural programmes, literary initiatives, competitions and training sessions for children and youth, women-centric activities, and social welfare projects.
In addition to addressing the community's diverse needs amidst the changing dynamics of expatriate life, the Wing has focused on preserving the Malayalam language and the artistic and cultural heritage of Kerala.
The organisers of the event claimed that the event will promise to be a unique celebration blending Silver Jubilee memories with the cultural spirit of Onam, accompanied by music and dance.
